A young boy has died after he went missing from his home in a remote community south west of Alice Springs.
A search and rescue operation began late on Thursday night to find the boy after his family reported him missing to Northern Territory Police, saying they had already searched for him for several hours.
According to police, the boy died on Friday after he was found in the early hours of the morning “in the community” in Central Desert.
Acting Commander Kirsten Engels said: “Tragically the child was found in the community early this morning and has subsequently passed away.
“Police are investigating and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
