Whole inner-east shopping centre added to Sydney exposure site list

All shoppers who attended an entire inner-east Sydney shopping centre over a two-hour period on Monday have been ordered to get tested, as the city’s COVID-19 exposure site list continues to grow.
Meanwhile, visitors to the Northmead Bowling Club over the course of six and a half hours on Sunday afternoon are being told to contact NSW Health, get tested and await further advice.
The department on Thursday night updated the exposure list following news earlier in the day that a 70-year-old woman who attended the same cafe as a coronavirus-infected Sydney man had tested positive.
A fourth positive test result, from a man in his 40s, only “showed low virus levels” but an expert panel was “unable to rule out the possibility” that he had the virus.
NSW Health said the bowls club was listed “out of an abundance of caution”.

All of Zetland’s East Village Shopping Centre, from 11am to 1pm on Monday, has been declared as a casual contact exposure site, requiring visitors to isolate until they receive a negative test.
Anyone who visited the centre’s Lorna Jane store over the same period must quarantine for two weeks regardless of the result and a health alert has also been issued for Bondi’s The Health Emporium for Tuesday.

Long queues for tests

On Thursday, residents in Sydney’s east faced wait times of over an hour as thousands flock to testing sites following the two cases of locally acquired COVID-19 diagnosed on Wednesday.
Long queues began forming as early as 7.30am in Bondi after a series of COVID-19 alerts were issued for venues across the eastern suburbs.
The alerts were issued late last Wednesday night after a second new case of coronavirus was detected in Bondi with cafes, department stores, a movie theatre and a car wash now included.
Late Wednesday, NSW Health revealed the second case was a household contact of a man in his 60s, whose positive COVID-19 test was announced earlier in the day.
The first identified case is a driver and transports international flight crews, NSW Health said. 9News understands he is not vaccinated against COVID-19.
Urgent investigations into the source of the infection and contact tracing are underway, as is genome sequencing.
NSW Health is reaching out to close contacts of the man.
On Wednesday night, two locations at the East Village Shopping Centre in Zetland, a bus route, several sites in Bondi Junction and a car wash in Redfern were added to the list of exposure sites. Further additions were made throughout Thursday.
