Telstra privacy breach sees customer details made public
The details of more than 130,000 Telstra customers have been published online due an internal error.
Some names, addresses and phone numbers have been listed incorrectly on the White Pages and Directory Assistance Services websites, Telstra said.
The company said no cyber hack was involved and called it “a result of the misalignment of databases.”
“We are removing the identified impacted customer details from the Directory Assistance service and the online version of the White Pages,” Telstra Chief Financial Officer Michael Ackland said.
“We are in the process of contacting every impacted customer to let them know what has occurred and offer free support from IDCARE.”
The publication of the information online is the latest in a series of incidents which has seen customer details released after cyber attacks, including of Optus and Medibank.
