Queensland childcare worker caught up in low-dose vaccine mix-up

A Queensland childcare worker caught up in a COVID-19 vaccine bungle says she has lost confidence in the government.
Joanne Jackson, 59, was one of 66 people who received their Pfizer vaccine from a hub in Brisbane’s Kippa-Ring on Saturday morning only to be later told they may have been administered an ultra-low dose.
Queensland Health says six of the 66 people identified have received a lower dose, due to a vial being used twice.

“People need to have confidence that when they’re going in to have their vaccinations they can trust what they are getting,” Ms Jackson said.
“What is the health advice if it’s going to be my third shot?”
Of the 66 people implicated, 26 were receiving their first dose and 40, including Ms Jackson, were receiving their second dose.
There is no published evidence that an additional dose of the vaccine three to six weeks after a second dose provides increased protection or immunity.
Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young said there was also “no risk” of getting a third dose.
“People can be assured that we will manage it so it’s absolutely safe.”

But Ms Jackson told 9News she’s lost confidence in the government’s rollout and understands why others have also.
“I was to have the Astra (AstraZeneca) first, I was booked in with my GP to have that and they cancelled the appointment because I was under 60 because Jeanette Young said don’t have it.”
