Mother of sisters involved in deadly alleged hit-run speaks of heartbreak
The mother of two sisters involved in an alleged hit-run tragedy in Melbourne has said her “heart almost stopped” after the incident, which left one of her daughters dead.
Aleza Gwit’s daughter, Asyai Luk, 22, is accused of striking her sibling with a car during a fight in Sunshine before fleeing the scene yesterday.
Her sister, Gol Luk, 24, was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with head injuries and later died.
“My heart is broken. It’s tough, I can’t process it,” Gwit said.
Police said an argument between the siblings turned physical.
It is alleged the 24-year-old had been getting out of a car when it accelerated, dragging her along the road and crushing her against a parked car.
“She called me and said ‘Mum, Gol got out of the car and she’s angry and don’t know what happened’,” Gwit said.
“I said ‘okay go look for her’, she was going and looking and said I couldn’t find her.”
Asyai Luk maintains she had no idea her sister was injured.
“When they said she’s in the hospital (Asyai) said ‘what hospital? what happened?'” Gwit said.
Luk was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, failing to stop, and failing to render assistance on Tuesday.
Today she was granted strict bail conditions which include reporting to police and not driving a car.
