Earlier today, hundreds of staff and students at a high school in Newcastle, in the NSW Hunter Region, were forced into isolation after a student tested positive to COVID-19.
Mayfield’s San Clemente High School became the latest location to be listed as a COVID-19 exposure site with the school now undergoing a deep clean after the case was detected.
“The San Clemente High School community was notified of the positive diagnosis by the school principal on Wednesday 11 August,” a statement from NSW Education said.
“The student’s infectious period started on Thursday 5 August, and this was also the most recent day they attended the Catholic co-educational secondary school, which educates 620 students.
“All staff and students have been asked to self-isolate until they receive further advice from NSW Health.
“The school will be non-operational on Wednesday 11 August 2021, until further notice, for the on-site attendance of students, staff and visitors to allow time for contact tracing and cleaning.”
The school is among several places listed as exposure sites in the area with the snap-lockdown now being extended in the Newcastle and Hunter regions.
