Australian KFC store forced to close after running out of chicken
A KFC store in the Northern Territory was forced to close on Australia Day after running out of chicken.
The Alice Springs store is one of the most isolated KFCs in the world, and recent flooding on the Stuart Highway between Glendambo and Coober Pedy meant the shop couldn’t replenish its chicken supply.
Despite the closure, full-time staff and managers were still paid, but casual workers lost their shifts.
The store was reopened today, after chicken was brought down from Darwin.
To try to prevent another shortage this weekend, chicken will be sent over to the Alice Springs store from Queensland.
Fast food fury
Other restaurants and stores, including supermarkets, also experienced shortages due to the highway closure.
