Prince Philip dies aged 99 Follow live reaction from around the world
Veteran royal photographer Arthur Edwards has paid tribute to Prince Philip, sharing his favourite memories of the royal following his death on April 9.
Edwards told Nine’s Leila McKinnon on A Current Affair he observed the the Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth on a number of occasions and knew them to have a “special relationship”.
“I mean the Queen was Head of State but he was head of household,” Edwards said. “She deferred to him on many things.”
Edwards has speculated about whether the Queen will now retire and allow Prince Charles to become King, although he expects she is likely to “carry on”.
“She’s a tough lady… all her life its been about duty. Being the Queen is a lonely job and if you come home after a day’s work and talk it over with the prince, which she could do, and discuss the problems… she hasn’t got that anymore and that’s gonna be very difficult for her.
“There’s no-one else she can actually confide in without worrying about anybody else and its a very lonely time for her now.”
