Police investigate baby death in car in remote Western Australia

Major crime detectives are on their way to a remote town in Western Australia’s north to investigate a baby’s death after it was found unresponsive in a car.
WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch said police were called to a hospital in Fitzroy Crossing after an 18-month-old baby was found unresponsive in a car on Tuesday.
The baby couldn’t be revived at the hospital and died.

“Such a sad story and certainly tragic for a small community like Fitzroy Crossing,” Blanch said.
He said major crime detectives are heading from Perth to the remote town to investigate the death including why the baby was in the car and how long it had been left there.
Blanch confirmed the child was not in care and police are treating it as a “family matter”.
“There is not only the family in significant distress but the whole community is,” Blanch said.
“This really rocks a community like that very hard and that’s why our police up there are doing the best they can to spend as much time with the community and walk them through this.”
The investigation is continuing.
