NSW Liberal MP John Sidoti resigns from Cabinet after ICAC launches public inquiry
NSW Liberal MP John Sidoti has resigned from Cabinet in the wake of an investigation by the corruption watchdog.
The member for Drummoyne and former sports minister has been sidelined for more than a year as the Independent Commission of Inquiry (ICAC) completed an initial probe.
This morning the commission said it would be going ahead with a public hearing.
“Just after the Cabinet meeting I was advised of the ICAC investigation into Mr Sidoti, the member for Drummoyne,” NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
“I’ve had a chance very briefly, just a few seconds ago to speak to Mr Sidoti.
“He has offered me his resignations from the ministry, it means that Dr (Geoff) Lee will continue to act in those portfolios until I determine a replacement in the near future.”
Mr Sidoti was stood down from the ministry amid allegations he improperly used his position to influence property developments in Five Dock between 2011 and 2018.
The public inquiry will begin on March 29, with Chief Commissioner the Hon. Peter Hall QC presiding.
