Melbourne man critical after driver rams his mobility scooter then flees the scene
A man is fighting for life and a driver is on the run after the man was sent flying when a car hit his mobility scooter in Melbourne’s north.
The 45-year-old Campbellfield man was crossing Campbell Street in Campbellfield on his motorised scooter about 1pm when a silver Holden Commodore crossed onto the wrong side of the road and hit the scooter, according to police.
The man was thrown out of the scooter and landed several metres from where he was hit.
The car then hit a gutter and drove away with the scooter attached to the underneath of the car.
The driver stopped in the car park of the Campbellfield Cricket Club and detached the scooter from the car, which was last spotted fleeing from the scene along Sydney Road, towards Barry Road.
The man was found unconscious on the side of the road by a passer-by.
Police are calling for witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage that could help with the investigation as they try to track down the driver and the car.
The car involved was a Holden Commodore sedan VE model manufactured between 2007-2013.
Police believe the car may have sustained damage to the front driver’s side during the crash.
Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam/CCTV footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
