Melbourne crime victims demand police patrols as crime spree caught on CCTV
Frustrated victims of a Melbourne crime spree are demanding extra patrols from Victoria Police.
Security footage obtained by 9News appears to show people stealing cars and attempting to break into homes in the western suburbs.
Point Cook resident Lusila Matafeo was a recent victim, her son’s watch and her prized Holden Commodore among the things stolen on Friday night.
An emotional Matafeo, describing the incident as “upsetting” and “scary”, said she had been told it was unlikely she would get her car back.
“It’s something that you work for and people just come and take it,” she said.
A group of three intruders was caught on camera in Truganina on July 5, jumping a fence before looking for ways to get inside a house.
They checked the locks and looked through the windows while Ana Sison and her three children slept inside.
“I was so anxious actually,” she said.
Minutes later that night, what’s believed to be the same group attempted to steal a car.
Fed-up residents are calling for a stronger police presence in the western suburbs.
They say they’d feel safer if more officers were patrolling the streets at night.
“All we want is the police to restore the communities confidence by taking some strict action,” Resident Preet Singh said.
Police are investigating the incidents.
