Flood-recovery volunteer brought to tears on live radio by surprise gift
A NSW teacher who has been coordinating a project to help replace air conditioners in a flood-affected town has been brought to tears on live radio by a surprise gift.
A massive 80 per cent of homes and businesses were damaged in the town of Eugowra, which is 300km west of Sydney, when it was hit by historic floodwaters in November.
Many of them were not insured.
David Conyers, who works as a teacher in his local TAFE in Bathurst, has been coordinating a team of 31 volunteer tradies replacing air conditioners in the town.
So far, they have replaced 114 air conditioners.
Speaking to Conyers live on air, Ben Fordham brought the volunteer to tears by gifting him a holiday voucher and $1000 spending money for the trip.
“That’s awesome, mate,” Conyers said between tears.
He then further called for tradies to help volunteer in the town.
“The loveliest people out there still don’t have power connected to their houses.
“There’s a dire need for electricians out there.”
