Changes to HSC exams as lockdown extended for Greater Sydney
Students preparing for upcoming HSC examinations are facing further disruptions with trial exams now being rescheduled for some schools.
The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) has advised schools they are able to postpone trail exams or provide an “alternative assessment task suitable for the learning at home context.”
The announcement comes after NSW extended its lockdown restrictions including stay-at-home learning for another two weeks.
As trial examinations are conducted internally by high schools, students will have to wait for specific instructions from their school on alternative arrangements or changes to exam timetables.
NESA is expected to provide further advice on HSC oral language exams due to begin on July 31, the day after lockdown is expected to end.
Dance exams are also set to take place from August 2.
The NSW Premier indicated today restrictions could be extended past July 30 if daily case numbers are not drastically reduced.
“At this stage we are planning for the drama, music and written exams and the marking of major works and projects to go ahead on schedule in a COVID safe way,” NESA CEO Paul Martin said in a statement.
Mr Martin said support will be available to students undergoing their HSC exams and more detailed guidance will be issued to schools to help deal with further changes.
Students undertaking their HSC this year will have a COVID illness/misadventure process available if their ability to work on a major project or performance has been “significantly impacted” by COVID-19 restrictions
