New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has made a strong recommitment to Australia in his first overseas visit after stepping into his new role.
The conservative leader met for discussions with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Sydney today to emphasise their close relationship about a month after he was elected.
At a joint press conference this afternoon, Luxon said the “Anzac spirit” was as “strong as ever” between the two Tasman Sea neighbours.

The sentiment was echoed by Albanese, who said the relationship between the two countries has never been more important.
He said the pair will continue to support Pacific priorities and deepen their trade, defence and economic partnerships.
“Our common values that we have as nations mean that there are great opportunities for us to work together on closer economic ties, closer social ties, and working together in the international community too to meet our common objectives,” he said.
