Sydney mother-of-four dies with coronavirus one day after being tested
A Sydney mother-of-four is among the 12 latest people to have died with coronavirus in New South Wales.
Jamila Yaghi died in her home in south-west Sydney on Wednesday night, just one day after getting a COVID-19 test.
She was just 38, making her one of the youngest people in Australia to die with the virus.
“Investigations are underway into the source of her infection, she was not vaccinated,” NSW Deputy Chief Health Officer Dr Marianne Gale said today.
Granville MP Julia Finn described the death as “awful” and said about two per cent of people in the area have COVID-19 at the moment.
Ms Yaghi was “deeply engaged in the community”, Ms Finn said in an earlier Facebook post.
“She leaves behind four children and an extended family and many, many friends who loved her dearly.
“Our area remains the area of greatest concern with Merrylands and Guildford named again.
“I’ve repeatedly requested more local health resources so we know as soon as possible who needs a test and the test results.
“I can’t wait for lockdown to end and I don’t want to see us left behind stuck in lockdown or with rolling business closures with continuing exposure to a deadly disease.”
Two people from south-west Sydney died at Westmead Hospital, a woman in her 70s who acquired her infection there and a woman in her 80s.
Four people from south-west Sydney died at Liverpool Hospital – a man in his 80s, two women in their 70s, and a woman in her 60s.
A man in his 70s from south-east Sydney died at St George Hospital.
He was a resident of St George Aged Care Facility in Bexley and acquired his infection there.
A man in his 70s from south-west Sydney died at Concord Hospital.
A man in his 70s from Sydney’s north died at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital.
A man in his 70s from south-western Sydney died at St George Hospital.
A man in his 90s from the Blue Mountains died at the Hawkesbury Living Aged Care Facility.
The death toll from the outbreak since June 16 in NSW is 119.
