Baby airlifted to hospital after suspected Irukandji jellyfish sting at K’gari
A baby has been airlifted to hospital after a suspected Irukandji jellyfish sting at K’gari, formerly known as Fraser Island, off the Queensland coast.
RACQ rescue helicopter crews were called to a beach on the western side of the island about 3.30pm yesterday.
Paramedics treated the girl at the scene before she was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital in stable condition with a parent.
Just two hours earlier, emergency services were called to the same location after a man also suffered a suspected Irukandji sting.
He was also airlifted to Hervey Bay Hospital.
And yesterday, a girl was flown to the same hospital with an unconfirmed marine sting.
The Irukandji is an extremely venomous, tiny and rare type of box jellyfish found in our waters from Bundaberg in Queensland all the way to Geraldton in Western Australian.
