Sheraton Grand Sydney evacuated after guest allegedly smashes window, sets off sprinklers and floods floor
Dozens of guests were forced to evacuate from one of Sydney’s plushest 5-star hotels this morning after a guest allegedly smashed a window in his room, hit staff and set off the water sprinkler system.
9News understands people staying on at least four floors of the hotel, one of Sydney’s most exclusive with views over Hyde Park, had to leave their rooms during the incident.
Police and fire services were called to the hotel on Elizabeth Street, in the city centre, just before 8am, after workers grew concerned for the man’s safety.
Hotel staff had checked on the 35-year-old, who was staying on the 12th floor, and were allegedly hit by him.
Police arrested the man and have taken him to St Vincent’s Hospital for assessment.
