Qantas gearing up for busiest day of the year tomorrow
Qantas Group is gearing up for its biggest day of the year, with more than 150,000 customers expected to be travelling in the air tomorrow.
Millions of Australians will fly domestically and internationally between December and January, equating to more than 8.5 million passengers across 70,000 flights.
Popular holiday destinations include Bali, Auckland, Singapore, Tokyo and London internationally, and the Gold Coast, Cairns, Melbourne and Perth nationally, according to Qantas.
The airline company, which has faced a plethora of adversity this year – including a drop in share prices – has said it is going the extra mile to prepare for the summer peak.
The company said that additional staff had been hired, and up to 13 aircraft would be on standby to help minimise delays and cancellations over the holiday period.
“Qantas and Jetstar have been pulling out all stops to prepare for the summer peak to help ensure a safe and smooth travel experience at this extremely busy time,” the airline said in a release.
“This financial year alone, Qantas is investing $230 million on a range of initiatives to fix pain points and improve customer experience.
“Improvements already rolled out include more Frequent Flyer reward seats, a major upgrade to the Qantas app that incorporates baggage tracking, better inflight catering and more generous customer recovery for major flight delays.”
The company has also increased international flights as demand for overseas travel increases post-COVID.
More flights will be available between Australia and Japan ahead of ski season, while flights between New York and Sydney have resumed.
Customers will also be able to travel to Shanghai from Sydney on the airline, which is the last international route to be restored after COVID-19.
Travellers looking to fly on a budget have been encouraged to purchase mid-week flight fares for the best deals.
One-way flights from Sydney to the Gold Coast are still available for $66 with Jetstar, while from Melbourne to Singapore are available from $199 in January
