John Farnham’s family thanks doctors after singer makes ‘full recovery’ from chest infection
Australian music legend John Farnham has made a “full recovery” from the chest infection that sent him to hospital.
The singer’s family updated fans on his health in a statement released on Monday night.
“We’re pleased to say that John made a full recovery from a recent chest infection in late March which required hospitalisation,” wife Jill and sons Rob and James said.
“He is now comfortable and continues to receive on going treatment and rehabilitation care.
“The family would like to re-iterate their appreciation and deepest respect for all the medical staff that have attended to John over the past eight months and the many thousands of kind messages that (have) been received from across Australia and the world.”
The 73-year-old was taken to hospital with the chest infection in late March, seven months after undergoing a gruelling 12-hour surgery, requiring 26 surgeons, to remove a cancerous growth in his mouth.
His 1986 album Whispering Jack, featuring the single You’re the Voice, remains the second-highest selling album in Australia, behind only Meat Loaf’s Bat Out Of Hell.
He has received 19 ARIA awards, and was named an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1996, and Australian of the Year in 1987.
