WEST GATE Bridge 50 years ago today

WEST GATE Bridge  50 years ago today, at this exact moment – the city shook.
The West Gate Bridge collapsed, and 35 workers were killed as tonnes of steel and concrete fell from above.
We remember that tragedy every year – to honour those workers who died, and who were injured.
We stand with their families. With workmates left to face that immeasurable pain and to live with those haunting memories.
We remember it because it should never have happened. Because it should never happen again.
And to remind us all that the most basic right of every worker is to come home safe.
