A western Sydney man is accused of kicking his elderly stepfather in the face before returning in a car and running him down.

Mark Morgan, 30, has been charged with the attempted murder of the 70-year-old following the incident at the pair’s Telopea family home on Sunday afternoon.

CCTV allegedly captured the moment Morgan dragged the older man outside onto the property’s nature strip by the arm before kicking him in the face and driving off.

However, police say he returned and attempted to mow down the man.

As shocked witnesses come to his aid, without warning, the same car is seen driving back down the hill before running into the man, throwing him up to 4m and knocking him unconscious.

Morgan then allegedly fled on foot before forcing entry into a nearby home where he is accused of smashing a window, furniture and walls, causing $50,000 worth of damage.

He was arrested at the home following a brief struggle with police and later charged with domestic violence-related attempted murder, as well as break and enter and police assault offences.

He faced Hornsby Local Court on Tuesday, where he did not apply for bail, which was formally refused by magistrate Carl Milovanovich.

He’ll next face Parramatta Local Court on March 25.

The older man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he remains, for treatment of facial and hip injuries.
