Ricky Ponting rushed to hospital after health scare while commentating on Perth Test

Ricky Ponting was rushed to hospital after suffering a health scare while commentating on the first Test between Australia and the West Indies on Friday afternoon.

Ponting reported feeling dizzy midway through day three of the Test during commentary duties for Seven, before being taken to hospital for precautionary tests on his heart.

“Ricky Ponting is unwell and will not be providing commentary for the remainder of today’s coverage,” a Seven spokesperson said.

Ponting did not return to the commentary box on day three, but sources told The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald that the former Test captain was feeling “fine” after the hospital visit.

Ponting returned to his hotel on Friday evening and Seven will assess the matter on Saturday morning.

Australian captain Pat Cummins was taken aback by the revelation after play.

“I only heard about it a few minutes ago but, yeah, obviously wish Ricky the best,” Cummins said.

“Just chatting to him this morning out in the field and, yeah, by all reports it sounds like he’s going OK, but anything like that’s obviously super scary. So wish him the best.″⁣
